We all have the potential to make money with a blog

by Diane Corriette on January 25, 2011

I took part in a conversation on Facebook yesterday in which the question was asked whether we are all capable of being entrepreneurs and that maybe its a skill that some people just can’t learn. I really don’t believe that. I believe we all have the potential to make money with a blog. I believe if one person can do something we all can – if we are willing to put the work in to learn (and I must say when it comes to making money with a blog and making money online most people DON’T want to put the work in!).  I don’t want to be a lawyer but if I did and I was willing to put the study in and sit the exams I believe I could do it.

It is not that people don’t have the ability it is just that some people aren’t willing to do the work that is required to succeed – and online it takes a lot of work to succeed, especially when it comes to making money with a blog. You have to constantly write content and look for topics that will interest your reader, while monitoring the other blogs in your niche.

Robert Allen (or was it Mark Victor Hansen) set a challenge where he took someone from the job line – a random person – and in 90 days said he could show them how to make money online from scratch. He succeeded more than once with different people. Men and women of different educational backgrounds. Why did he succeed? Because he was right there with them helping them along. It was his support that made it possible and support isn’t something that is readily available when it comes to learning how to blog and make money blogging. Most people will sell a product and leave you to it – membership sites are probably better at providing support through forums and webinars, but actual one to one support from an expert is rare and would probably be very expensive.

Anyway, here is a part of my reply to that conversation….

I believe everyone has the innate ability to be an entrepreneur and can develop it. Most people just don’t want to though. I don’t believe there is anything one person can do that another can’t. We are all capable of achieving – I am a big believer in human potential.  The question is do I want this for myself to do the work that is necessary to succeed? I don’t want to put the work in to be a lawyer or a doctor – that doesn’t mean I couldn’t become one or that I don’t have the ability. It comes down to commitment.

People who don’t succeed really don’t want it enough because when you really have a passion for succeeding in something you never give up. Most people are not willing to put in the work that is needed. Of course it doesn’t help that marketers make it out to be so simple. All of that “….. even if you are a complete newbie with no experience” talk makes people believe they can do it – and they can if they commit to making it happen. The reality is very different though. Six months later people are “crying” about not making any money and ready to give up. I was lucky.

One of my first experiences online was with Dr Mani. I read his report and it was honest. It might take 7-10 years to be successful he wrote. I was ready to do the work and have it take less time. I achieved that.
What it takes to be successful online is support and that is often what is lacking – real support from an expert – but that also costs. So much easier (for the marketer) just to sell a product for $150, $997 or $2k and leave people to get on with it. More money for them to rake in and less of their time commitment. They can move on and sell another product.  90 days with a person every day is time consuming and who wants that! You can’t get rich that way. So as marketers we have to look at ourselves too – just saying “some people just can’t do this” is a back door – a way out. It’s just not true.  In my humble opinion :)

There you have it. What are your views on this? Do we all have the potential to make money with a blog or are some of us just better at this stuff than others? Are you determined enough to keep going when you really want to give up?

Always remember you can now get support to achieve your blogging dream by joining Blog Success who offer a free forum and lessons. You are not going to learn everything that way – eventually you will have to believe in yourself enough to invest in your education and become a premium member. At least as a free member you can get an idea of what it takes to make money with a blog and decide whether it is for you or not!

Think everyone can learn to blog but to some it comes more naturally than others, food for thought.

Yes Sonya you are right to some it may be more natural but with practice anyone can master it! I am not a natural singer but I have no doubt if I wanted to I could learn to sing. Instead I do with what I have! :)

Aye Aye Aye, you nailed it Diane. Success is about potential, decision and support. Potential is constant, decision is random and support is rare. I like your analogy about wanting to be a lawyer/doctor. The decision to learn, patience and dedication to stick with it and a caring mentor to hold your hands are the main ingredients for success. Cheers

Having a mentor is definitely a big plus and saves on the learning curve but even without one the decision to learn and patience/dedication to stick with is is definitely a winning combination!

I’ve heard it said many times that if you believe you can you’re right, and if you believe you can’t you’re right!

It’s not far from that. Like you said, whatever one person can do another can also do it. That also is my belief. You simply need to focus on what you doing and the results will come in.

The problem most times is that many who turn to blogging for money go in with mind of making millions in months. But when they realize very soon that there is work to be done they back out. Too bad!

Making money blogging is possible and for everyone!
