There have been a number of people making a huge fuss about the new Facebook chat that appears in your right hand sidebar (people are starting groups and pages called we hate the new chat put the old one back!) and if you hate it then it is easy enough to hide. I just found it very distracting but maybe with any change it is just a case of getting used to what’s new…. Anyway, this is how you can hide it.
All you do is go down to the right and click on the little icon which brings up the option to hide it and it disappears.
Then whenever you want to bring it back just click on CHAT and it reappears
Click on the word Chat and the icon reappears
It is that simple.

Everyone keeps saying that! but when you unclick the ‘available to chat’ option it just signs you back in anyway ten minutes later!
I never use chat and don’t want people seeing if I am online or not so if anyone else out there has the same problem you can create a friends list in Account, Edit Friends, then go into the chat thing and click on the cog, click on the limit availability button and then tick the box next to the friends list you just created – as I understand it, it means nobody will be able to chat to you, you do not appear on their chat list. You are still their friend and they can post on your wall etc
It seems to be different for everyone. For me once I did that 3 or 4 times it stopped coming back. Now it doesn’t show up at all. Maybe you have to repeat the process and then it knows to stay away. But your option is good enough if it works. Also some one said they went into their profile and found something called fixer, clicked on that and one of the choices is whether you want to see Chat or not. Uncheck it and it should eventually go.
I think it doesn’t go immediately but it does eventually go!
The problem is not if it shows or not, the issue is that it doesn’t show all your online contacts. Just the ones you supposedly interacted with recently. Hence you never know who of your friends is really online like the old chat did. That’s where I get annoyed with.
Just wanna input that you have a very nice internet site, I love the style it really stands out.
